Plasterer in South Shields
A plasterer covering the whole of South Shields and South Tyneside: Westoe, Laygate and Chichester terraces, the semis of Harton and Cleadon Park, the estates at Whiteleas, Biddick Hall and Simonside, and the seafront streets towards Marsden. Reskims, float and set, boarding, ceilings and artex, and the replastering that follows damp work on the coast. Fixed quotes after a visit, no travel charges.

Plastering South Shields homes
The Victorian terraces and Tyneside flats of Westoe, Laygate and the streets around the town centre are solid-walled with old plaster that has often been patched more times than it has been replaced. We check every wall on the quote visit: sound plaster is skimmed, blown plaster is stripped and floated, and anything with salt damage from old damp is treated before new plaster goes on. Bay fronts that have taken sea weather usually need the most work.
Harton, Cleadon Park, Westoe Village and the interwar streets have semis with artex ceilings, cracked plasterboard ceilings and walls scarred by wallpaper stripping. Those are our bread and butter: artex sealed and skimmed or overboarded, ceilings replaced where they have gone, walls reskimmed in a day per room. We never sand artex, because older coatings can contain asbestos.
On the estates and in the newer housing at Whiteleas, Biddick Hall and Simonside we do a lot of boarding and skimming for refits and extensions, patching after rewires, and skimming the new walls in garage conversions and loft rooms. Rubbish away, room clean, finish ready for a mist coat.
Parts of South Shields we cover
We work across the whole of South Shields and the streets around it, including Westoe, Harton, Cleadon Park, Whiteleas, Marsden, Horsley Hill, Simonside, Biddick Hall, Laygate, Tyne Dock, West Park and Chichester. There are no travel charges anywhere in South Tyneside.
Skimming South Shields homes
In the terraces and Tyneside flats near the town centre and the seafront, the walls that face the weather often have soft, salty plaster that will stain through any skim. We check on the quote visit, treat and replaster where the damp has been, and skim the sound walls. Chimney breasts and bay fronts get the closest look.
The interwar semis of Harton, Cleadon Park and Westoe Village are mostly artex ceilings and walls scarred by wallpaper stripping. Light artex is sealed and skimmed in a day; heavy or cracked ceilings are overboarded and skimmed. We never sand artex because older coatings can contain asbestos.
Across Whiteleas, Biddick Hall and Simonside we skim new plasterboard in extensions, loft rooms and garage conversions, and make good after refits and rewires, so the whole room is one smooth surface ready for paint.

Our promise
If a wall or ceiling we plastered is not right, we come back and sort it. We prepare the background properly and use the right plaster for it, which is why that rarely happens.

Plasterer questions from South Shields
The wall needs to dry out first, or the new plaster will stain and blow. How long depends on how wet it got and the time of year, but a few weeks is normal and longer through winter. We take moisture readings before we start, and if the wall is not ready we tell you rather than plaster over it.
Yes. Textured coatings on walls are dealt with the same way as artex on ceilings: sealed and skimmed where the texture is light and sound, or boarded over where it is heavy or cracked. We never sand textured coatings because older ones can contain asbestos. Doing walls and ceilings together in a room gives a consistent finish and usually saves a second visit.
We cover floors with dust sheets and protect the stairs and hallway we walk through. Where a room is being hacked back to brick, we recommend lifting carpet first, because heavy debris can get through sheets. Wooden floors are sheeted and taped at the edges. At the end of each day the room is swept and rubbish is taken away.
