Plasterer in North Shields
We plaster across North Shields, from the Tyneside flats of Chirton and Percy Main to the townhouses around Northumberland Square and the Fish Quay, the semis of Marden, Preston and New York and the newer housing out towards Northumberland Park. Reskims, float and set on stripped walls, boarding, ceilings and artex, and the replaster that follows damp treatment. Fixed quotes, no travel charges, a finish the decorator will not need to fill.

Plastering North Shields homes
The Tyneside flats of Chirton, West Chirton and Percy Main are a hundred years old and their plaster shows it. Hollow patches, long cracks, and the salt-damaged bottom metre of front rooms where damp has been. We tap every wall before quoting, skim the sound ones and strip and float the rest, and if a wall is damp we treat it first because new plaster over old damp fails every time.
Around the Fish Quay, Dockwray Square and Northumberland Square the Georgian and Victorian townhouses have high ceilings, cornices and lime plaster on stone. Those need a plasterer who respects the building: lime-compatible systems where they matter, cornices protected or reinstated, high walls skimmed from proper staging so the lines are straight. We do that work regularly.
Marden, Preston Grange and New York are mostly interwar and post-war semis with artex ceilings and plasterboard walls, and the jobs there are reskims, overboarding cracked ceilings, and boarding and skimming after kitchen and bathroom refits. A room a day, artex never sanded, rubbish taken away.

Skimming North Shields homes
The Tyneside flats have hundred-year-old plaster that mostly skims well once it has been checked: hollow patches cut out and made good, cracks scrimmed, and the salty bottom metre of a front room treated rather than covered. A skim over blown or damp plaster is the one thing we will not do, because it comes back off.
The Georgian and Victorian townhouses around Northumberland Square and the Fish Quay have lime plaster on stone, cornices and high ceilings. We skim those with care for the building: lime-compatible where it matters, cornices protected, long walls done from proper staging so they stay true.
Marden, Preston Grange and New York are artex and plasterboard. Light artex is sealed and skimmed in a day; heavy or cracked ceilings are overboarded and skimmed; walls damaged by wallpaper stripping are brought back in a day per room. Artex is never sanded.

Our promise
If a wall or ceiling we plastered is not right, we come back and sort it. We prepare the background properly and use the right plaster for it, which is why that rarely happens.

Plasterer questions from North Shields
Cellars can be plastered, but they need care because they sit below ground and the walls are often damp. Ordinary plaster on a damp cellar wall will fail. Depending on how you want to use the space, the wall may need tanking or a membrane before any finish goes on. We look at the cellar and explain what will work before quoting.
If the cracks follow the board joints and the ceiling is firm when pressed, scrimming the joints and skimming the whole ceiling usually puts it right. If it moves, sags or sounds hollow, the boards or the old lath have let go and a new ceiling is the lasting fix. We check on the visit and tell you which, with a fixed price for that job.
Yes. We take old coving down where it is damaged or dated, skim the ceiling and walls, and fit new coving to finish the joint between them. If you would rather keep existing coving that is in good condition, we skim up to it and protect it while we work. Coving is part of the same job, so there is no wait for another trade.
